Juli Richmond Secrets To Juggling Marriage, Friendship and Business
Juli Richmond sure has her hands full. She’s the wife of NBA veteran Mitch Richmond of 17 years, a mother of three, a businesswoman, and also appearing on her second season of the VHI series Basketball Wives. From the outside looking in she appears to be juggling her endeavors effortlessly. Sportsality had a conversation with Juli to find out her secrets to balancing it all with ease.
Juli met her husband over twenty years ago through a mutual friend and their rock solid marriage has stood the test of time. Celebrating seventeen years of matrimony is commendable for any couple but especially a sports couple with all of the negativity that’s usually associated with these unions. Juli credits a strong base for carrying her family through the years. “First and foremost our foundation is our family. We realize that all these perks and extras are nice, but what we have does not make us who we are. At the end of the day all we have is each other.” With notoriety comes misconceptions and Juli recognizes that the assumptions people may have of marriage to a professional athlete are mainly misconstrued “People assume money solves all of our problems.
We have to balance our husbands being gone a lot. In a sense we’re like single moms. It’s more emotional than people know.” The emotional toll is especially felt by the athletes themselves and often the wives have to be the stronger ones during these stressful times. “Getting traded can make them feel worthless sometimes, especially when they’ve contributed to teams for years. It does affect the guys. Although they know it’s a business it affects them in ways that people don’t consider.”
